The Ship at Eyemouth has been the heart of the harbour for hundreds of years. It has been host to generations of fishermen needing a drink after returning from the sea. It is also said that over the years, the quiet corners have been a meeting place for deal makers, smugglers, scoundrels and visitors alike. It is likely that everyone who lives in Eyemouth, or who has ever lived in Eyemouth, has been into The Ship.

With the changing world of the 21st century, the old Ship Hotel struggled to find it’s place and found itself barely able to survive. After a relatively short time of closure, a plan was forged to revive her fortunes. Like many of the best plans it was simple. Return the focus to the original 18th century idea. The Ship would be a place of welcome and comfort. A place where her guests could enjoy the freshest and finest creations of food and drink. Everything is prepared and served in a fine dining restaurant with an accessible bar lounge. A place to pop in for lunch, to meet with friends or to celebrate the milestones of life.

Respecting its listed building heritage status, The Ship was carefully refurbished to the highest standards to become The Ship Restaurant. Chef Daniel Winstanley and his talented team apply the most advanced culinary techniques with the finest ingredients. Served with a wonderful list of rare tipples from the bar, they have restored the history of The Ship’s hidden revelry.

Our approach to food is to get the best out of the ingredient, from sourcing the correct quality to executing precisely on the plate. Our style is classic British with modern touches, technique and style. Most importantly we strive to ensure every dish is always packing great flavour.

For us it’s key to always source locally where possible and keep to the seasons. The boats arriving into Eyemouth harbour bring in a great diversity of the freshest fish and our neighbours are some of the finest farmers and fishcurers in the world.  Our love is to combine and transform these amazing resources into our menu.
